Recently, a local radio station stated that it is cheaper or could save more energy to use appliances during off-peak hours. We would like to state that this is untrue.

Firstly, there is no Time-of-Use tariff for residential users. This means, the electricity tariff remains the same. It won't be any cheaper to use electricity during the night or off-peak hours.

Secondly, it could actually cost more to use appliances at night. During the night, or off-peak periods, we note that the supply voltage is higher (but still within Suruhanjaya Tenaga's guidelines). A higher voltage will mean linear (devices without switch-mode power supply or inverters) to consume more energy. Typically, irons, motors (washing machines), lights and fans will draw more energy when the supply voltage is higher.

However, there is an upside to use electricy during night (off-peak) hours. Using electricity during off-peaks helps reduce stress on electricity transmission and generation. In turn, this will help the environment.

In any case, we hope that in the future, the media will dessiminate "news" which are accurate.

The Team

Tuck Keong is the founder of this firm and he heads the development team. He holds a Bachelor degree in Engineering majoring in electronics with emphasis on telecommunications and microcontrollers from The University of Melbourne, Australia.

He has more than 9 years of experience in various secure identity industries and strong background in marketing and management. He is well versed with various advanced technologies with a profound knowledge in microcontrollers and electronics systems design. His experiences include responsibilities in providing value added technical and project management consultancy services for biometrics, smartcards and electronic passport projects. He is one of the pioneers in the introduction and development of the biometric e-passport technology that is being used globally today.

Following his graduation, he joined an engineering company as an Engineer, where he was responsible for the research and development of a queue system. He then started worked in IRIS Corporation Berhad as a R&D Engineer, leading a team to develop the most interoperable and fastest epassport reader as tested in the Interoperability Test in Berlin 2006. He then furthered his career in Product Management in the Marketing division of IRIS. He is the co-inventor of “Biometric Identity Verification System and Method”, PCT Patent Number WO 2009/002139 A1. The same patent is pending in United States Patent Office (Patent Application Number 12/310,850). He is a Registered Electrical Energy Manager (PTE-0018-2017) with Suruhanjaya Tenaga.

Ir. Peter Cheng

Ir. Peter Cheng specializes in ceramic works, kiln operations, chiller operations, quary operations, calcium carbonate plant, chlor-alkali plants, roller mills, ball mills, waste water treatment, handling of acids and chlorine, boiler systems, gas turbine and steam turbines. He has at least 33 years of work experience in these areas. Ir. Peter is a Professional Engineer (Registration Number 6872)registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, members of Institute of Engineers Malaysia and the Institute of Management Malaysia; Certified Steam Engineer (Grade 1) and a Registered Electrical Energy Manager (PTE-0089-2010) with Suruhanjaya Tenaga. He is passionate about assisting factories and facilities to improve on energy efficiency.

Anthony Dennis

He has a deep passion for programming, especially when the software has to integrate with hardware. Since graduating in 2003, he has been working in various industries – mostly in the identity industry. While with IRIS and subsequently with the Central Informatics Organization (CIO), Government of Bahrain, he has obtained technical knowledge in the areas of ICAO 9303, ISO/IEC 7816, ISO/IEC 14443, PKCS, RSA, JavaCard, NIST-FIPS and NIST-PIV. With this deep technical knowledge coupled with sound programming skills, he is able to deliver high value to the projects that he is involved in.

His experience in the identity document world includes the deployment and subsequently the maintenance of the Bahrain Identity Card Project and Data Capturing and Enrolment for the Nigerian Passport Project.

CY Tan

CY graduated from University Malaya had now has more than five years of work experience. She is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. Her experience is largely in areas of responsibility for factory finance, accounts and profit performance for a listed company in Malaysia; including monthly reporting, costing, cost management and settling of payment to suppliers.

Michelle Chan

Michelle Chan has more than five years of experience in design work, which is her passion. More than a designer, she is capable of managing projects from project initialization till project completion. She is familiar with the various project phases including SIT, UAT, Performance Testing and of course, Deployment. Her works include deliverables to a food review website in Melbourne, Maxis, Mongoose and AMG International. She has also designed the layout and webpages for www.ethnicborders.com and liz.my.
